Ustaad — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 September 2026

Ustaad is an entry test preparation app for Pakistani university students, published by Ustaad Labs (package com.ustaad.app). This policy explains exactly what the app collects, why, and how to get rid of it. It matches the Data safety declaration on our Google Play listing.

What we collect

Account information

Your study activity

Feedback you choose to send

If you use the feedback form inside the app, we store the message you write along with your name, email and user ID, so we can reply and fix what you reported. Sending feedback is entirely optional.

Usage and analytics

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used — for example how many people start a quiz, and where people get stuck. This collects:

Crash and performance data

We use Firebase Crashlytics so that when the app crashes we can find out why. A crash report includes the error and stack trace, the state of the device at the time, and your user ID, so we can tell whether a crash affected one person or everyone.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging gives your device a registration token, which we store against your account. It is what a notification is addressed to. Without it we cannot send you anything, and it identifies the device rather than you personally.

Why we collect it

DataPurpose
Name, email, user IDCreating and managing your account, and signing you in
Study activityTracking progress and streaks, and pointing you at your weak topics
FeedbackAnswering you and fixing what you reported
Usage and analyticsUnderstanding how the app is used so we can improve it
Crash and performance dataDiagnosing and fixing crashes and bugs
Notification tokenSending study reminders and app announcements
Approximate locationAnalytics only, so we know roughly where our users are

What we do not do. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with any other company or organisation. We show no advertising and work with no advertising partners. We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, files, messages, or any financial or health information.

Third party services

Ustaad is built on Google services, which process data on our behalf as our service providers:

About the AI explanations. The explanations shown after a wrong answer were written in advance using Google's Gemini models and are stored in our database. The app does not send your answers, your questions, or anything else about you to an AI service while you use it. Nothing you do in the app is transmitted to Gemini.

Where your data is stored, and for how long

Your data is stored using Google Firebase, on servers in Mumbai, India (the asia-south1 region), and is encrypted in transit.

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account it is removed immediately, and any copy remaining in routine encrypted backups is overwritten within 90 days. Backups are never used to rebuild a deleted account.

Deleting your account and data

You can delete everything at any time, in either of two ways.

Deleting your account removes your account and sign-in details, all study progress and streaks, your selected exams and weak topics, the record of questions you have seen, any feedback you sent from inside the app, and your notification token.

Turning off notifications

Notifications are optional. You are asked for permission only after you have finished a quiz, never on first launch, and you can turn them off at any time in your device settings under Apps → Ustaad → Notifications. Turning them off does not affect anything else in the app.

Children's privacy

Ustaad is intended for students aged 16 and above who are preparing for university entry tests. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. Any update will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, we will say so in the app.
